A Prayer to Walk in Your Light

Faithful Father, You began a good work in us, and we are confident that You “will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Thank You that our light has come and Your glory rises upon us.

Lord, keep us from drifting. We confess how easily we wander toward the dark, one careless step at a time. Help us treasure Your commandments, guard Your teachings as the apple of our eye, and write them on the tablet of our hearts. Make wisdom our sister and understanding our kinsman, so we are not simple and unguarded when the light fades.

Make us one in heart as we pray for each other. Let our love abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so we can test and prove what is best. Help us stand firm in one spirit, side by side, without being frightened. Like Paul in chains, may we say, “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”

Jesus, You came to bind up the brokenhearted and proclaim liberty to the captives. Give us a crown of beauty for ashes and the oil of joy for mourning. When we feel forsaken, remind us that You delight in us. Make us shine in a dark world until You are our everlasting light and the days of our sorrow cease. In Jesus’ name, amen.
